Surgical management of acute intestinal obstruction study of 50 cases operated in emergency

Background: Intestinal obstruction is one the major cause that patients underwent emergency operations and which might lead to complications could be turn fatal. Prompt evaluation treatment prevents mortality morbidity of post-operative patients. Methods: Prospective study conducted between 01 April 2020 31 March 2022 in 50 intestinal operated according inclusion criteria. Pre-operative, intraoperative, assessment recording data done. Results: In cases obstruction, commonest age group 41 60 years, pain obstipation remains presenting symptoms tenderness, guarding rigidity were most common signs. The adults this was postoperative adhesions (44%) followed by Koch’s abdomen (30%). Malignancy large bowel seen 6 constituting 12% cases, obstructed hernia 5 (10%), intussusception 3 (6%) gut malrotation 1 case (2%). Comorbidity like hypertension diabetes main causes complications. Conclusions: Maximum incidence obstructions reported Age 41-60 years with male predominance. Abdominal consistent obstipation. Post-operative adhesion obstruction. multiple comorbidity risk factor for mortality.
